About the Photographer
My photography is driven by my passion and love for God, for those made in His image, and for His Creation.
I desire to be a visual evangelist, using images and impressions to urge you to ponder,
praise, revere, and worship the Creator.
I took up photography early in my teen years and thoroughly enjoyed a vast array of visual experiments. As I mastered the technical side of photography, I worked with rangefinder, SLR, and homemade pinhole cameras. I loved the black and white darkroom, but shooting color reversal films brought the greatest joy. There is more to photography, however, than exposing a medium to light, balancing dark and bright. Pressing onward, coursework in college enlightened me to the art of photography, where I was challenged to address angles, form, composition, and storytelling.
In recent years I have embraced digital photography. The new tools are photo sensors, computers, and laser-driven darkrooms. Do I miss pulling freshly developed film from a tank or seeing an image materialize in Dektol under the dim illumination of paper-safe red light? A little. Those were adventurous times, and I have saved some of the equipment to share the processes with my children when they are a bit older. But I promise you, the pictures I am able to create now are jaw-dropping compared to those of my darkroom days. And with online, top-notch professional labs available, I can order massive prints (i.e. 20x30, 24x36, or even 30x45 inches) and deliver them within a week. The fact that you can review my work on a website says that digital photography has come of age.
In the past few years, my Dad has lost almost all his eyesight to glaucoma. His loss makes me realize that we often take the gift of vision for granted. Indeed, sight is a wondrous gift. As you go about each day, drink it all in—the land, the sky, the plants, the animals, and the people all around you. Look at it all and wonder; wonder how such a pair of tiny organs enable you to discern the feelings of loved ones in an instant and peer into the deepest reaches of space. Thank God for each day that you can see.
What can I do for you? Would you like enlargements of one or more of my gallery images? Do you need a tireless event photographer? I am also available for commercial projects and portraits, specializing in work with available light. Please use my Contact page to send me a message, and I will respond within one business day unless I am working away from the Internet.
By the way, my last name is pronouced jōb, or johb; it's a Biblical name; most people call me "Eric".
