Have you ever wanted a photograph of your home or business, but there were distracting elements that kept you from having the image you wanted?

Let's study this photograph of Ponder Auto Repair (used for www.PonderAutoRepair.com). The original photos below show power lines, power poles, a billboard, some rough looking trees, and a busy highway (note there are several; this photo is also a digital panorama). Compare the two images for differences. Not only was the skyline cleaned up, it was outright replaced with an alternate sky. And I could have done other things, like use a cloudless sky, put Ponder's staff in front of the building, and so on.

The important task was to make the Ponder building iconic, make it really stand out. If the purist in you objects to this sort of thing (pictures aren't supposed to lie, are they?), remember that the application for this is not photojournalistic. To me, digitally retouched photos and composites are art, not accuracy. They are about creating an impression, telling a story, or marketing an image.
