Just off the figure eight trail that winds around the legendary Rhododendron Gardens, atop Roan Mountain in North Carolina, was this bold, verdant fern. With fog often hanging in the air, even on summer days, the forest floor remains moist and dark under a thick Frazer canopy. Moss, Frazer fir sprouts, and ferns decorate this highland landscape.
